The Aurora comes in 4 models, depending on what you're looking for.
Our current night vision camera line-up includes (1) Aurora Sport (2) Aurora and (3) Aurora Pro .
The Aurora Sport (white) is our entry level night vision camera. This camera has the same optical lens and night vision sensor as the Aurora (black), but this camera does not include GPS, is not weapons-rated and does not have loop mode. Additionally, the Aurora Sport comes with a 1-year warranty, instead of the 2-year warranty we offer on the Aurora.
The Aurora is currently our flagship product that offers all of our features. The night vision camera has also been weapons-rated and tested on an M4 rifle for 4,000 rounds. The Aurora also comes with a standard 2-year warranty.
Both the Aurora Sport and the Aurora perform in near moonless starlight without the use of any IR illuminator.
The Aurora Pro is our next-generation night vision camera scheduled to ship in early May. This camera, although similar in form factor, has a brand new opitc and low-light CMOS sensor that is rated at more than 2x low-light the performance. Pro will also come with a 32GB SD card and be able to support up to 256GB and also come with 2 batteries, instead of 1. The Aurora Pro also comes with a standard 2-year warranty. Pro is currently available for pre-order.
Night vision and Thermal are very different technologies. You can think of night vision as a super-power that allows you to see, just like your natural eye, but in very dark conditions. All night vision needs a little bit of ambient light to work, for example the moon or some starlight. Additionally, the SiOnyx night vision is full color and our Pro version will operate in "moonless starlight" conditions.
Thermal picks up on "heat signatures", not visible light. The benefits of thermal is that you don't need any ambient light and you can see in the pitch black as it's not looking for visible light, and only reading heat signatures. Powerful enough thermal can also punch through fog, again because it's not looking for visi- ble light, and only reading heat signatures.
Unlike thermal, color night vision will allow you to identify what kind of animal is looking back at you in the darkness. Whereas thermal, will only pick up their heat signature.
A fully charged battery is generally good for about two hours of continuous video recording. To extend your battery, follow these tips: turn the camera off when you’re not using it, turn off WiFi/GPS/EIS/audio, reduce the brightness of the viewfinder, and enable the Auto Power Off feature.
